Sue Bickerdyke Interiors Featured in IMAGES Arizona Magazine

For over 30 years, Sue Bickerdyke Interiors has brought an unparalleled blend of global artistry and desert sophistication to homes across Arizona. From Bisbee beginnings to Scottsdale elegance, Sue’s legacy is one of artistry, family tradition, and an unrelenting passion for creating spaces that resonate deeply with homeowners. It’s no surprise that her incredible story is now being celebrated in the latest issue of IMAGES Arizona magazine.

From Bisbee to Carefree Elegance

Sue Bickerdyke’s journey into the world of design began long before "interior design" became a career goal. Growing up in Bisbee, a small mining town in Arizona, Sue learned the art of textiles and creative problem-solving from her family. Her early years were spent arranging window displays and sewing with her Nana in Douglas, where her love for design was born.

“My creative passion is deeply rooted in family,” Sue says. “I’m a fourth-generation fabric enthusiast. I started sewing at age 5, making everything from stuffed animals for kids I babysat to clothes I designed for myself.” These early experiences laid the foundation for her innovative approach to design, which blends personal history with functional, timeless elegance.

Today, Sue brings her talent to some of Scottsdale and Carefree’s most elegant homes. Her signature style combines warm desert colors, bold global patterns, and a sensitivity to her clients' needs and personalities.

30 Years of Transforming Arizona Homes

Now featured in IMAGES Arizona, Sue reflects on the moments that shaped her career. From her first professional role as a fashion retail assistant in Bisbee to becoming one of Ethan Allen's top designers in the ‘80s, Sue’s lifelong dedication to her craft is an inspiration for design enthusiasts everywhere.

The article, written by Joseph J. Airdo, offers insight into Sue’s design philosophy. Whether it’s designing custom wall treatments made from Arizona Highways magazine pages or creating inviting spaces for family gatherings, Sue’s work resonates with anyone who values the intersection of art, functionality, and heritage.

The Joy of Home, Infused with Heart

Sue Bickerdyke Interiors is much more than an interior design firm—it’s a celebration of stories, textures, and timeless beauty. At the heart of every project lies a commitment to creating spaces that feel deeply personal and unmistakably joyful.

Take, for example, her unique approach to historical design. Sue explains, “I love repurposing elements of Arizona history, bringing them to life in modern spaces. One project used vintage Arizona Highways magazine pages as custom wallpaper, giving a laundry room a truly unique and nostalgic twist.”

Another signature of her designs is a focus on comfort and connection. From custom leather-tufted ottomans paired with swivel chairs to inviting desert patios perfect for entertaining, every corner of Sue’s interiors reflects her philosophy of hospitality and warmth. “Beautiful spaces are meant to be lived in,” she concludes. “They should bring as much comfort as they do visual delight.”
